While I’m on the subject of technology inspiring the journalistic impulse, I thought I’d mention that my recent renewed enthusiasm for both photography and Tumblr has inspired me to make another attempt at running a photoblog. I purchased the domain “editedfromlife.com” (inspired by a quote from Stephen Shore’s book “The Nature of Photographs”) for this purpose years ago, but was never able to get into updating it—partly, I think, because I found the “serious editorial judgement” aspect of it all a bit crippling, but also because, as a standalone blog, it lacked the warm affirmation of the Tumblr community. This time around I’m going to try to be a bit less concerned about the whole thing, and mostly treat it as a missing outlet for my non-iPhone photos, as well as a higher fidelity presentation of some of my favorites from Instagram.
