Fritzy little Fresno, warm womb of the credit bomb. Lovely card, though, and lo the hills of California as beautiful as shit.

I learned about this and other fascinating bits of Visa history back when I was at Square. Fast Company did a great article years ago about Dee Hock, the man who brought order to the chaos BankAmericard wrought upon the world by transforming it into Visa, a confederation of card issuing banks and notable example of an effective decentralized organization. It’s pretty intriguing to learn that the man who founded one of America’s biggest financial companies is actually a sort of radical organizational thinker who now preaches a gospel of democratization and decentralization in places like the Santa Fe Institute.
