“ i know i’m like a day or two late on this but OH MY GOD HILARIOUS. (and yeasayer’s “2080” is a nice touch - hey, i like that song!)”
As snarky (and, ahem, accurately so) as this satirical Muxtape is, I do think it captures something interesting about Muxtape—namely that it’s designed to appeal very squarely to a certain, limited group of people. In some ways that limits its chances for large-scale success, but in other ways it’s the sole reason for its viability—both in the sense that its spartan, “honest” aesthetic appeals strongly to urban hipsters who are jaded toward social networks, and the sense that its modest scope keeps it off the radar of the music industry as a serious threat. I have some definite complaints about Muxtape’s design and usability, but as someone who’s been kind of obsessed with playlist sharing for sometime now, and as someone who aspires to the kind of micro-entrepreneurship that Muxtape exemplifies, I tip my hat to its creator.
