I’ve already mentioned it in a number of other self-promotional contexts, so apologies if I’m getting redundant, but it seems remiss not to mention here that I’ve finally started a photoblog after a year or so of pondering the idea. I call it “Edited from Life,” which is a paraphrase from photographer Stephen Shore’s critical work “The Nature of Photographs” (the idea being that photography, much more than, say, painting, is a process of selectively isolating and representing actual moments from life).
Part of me feels a bit conflicted at the idea of conceiving yet more Internet offspring I’ll probably only neglect, but I’d like to try to take my photography to the next level, so I think a place to showcase my better work where it isn’t intermixed with crappy cameraphone photos and snapshots is in order. I’m also hopeful that it will encourage me to work at taking more photos that will pass the higher critical bar I’m setting for the site.
